Otolaryngology (ENT)

The Ears, Nose and Throat hold more than three of your major senses. They are a system that affects balance, breathing and more.

ENT Care for Children & Adults
At Catalyst Medical Center we treat a variety of ENT issues for children and adults. From middle ear infections and hearing loss, to chronic sinus infections and reoccurring strep throat, our physicians have advanced training in this specialized area.

Ear Surgery & Balance Evaluation
Your ears play an integral role in your quality of life. They affect your hearing and balance, and if damaged can throw you off entirely. Meniere’s a disease that can cause vertigo (spinning, dizzy sensation), which may induce nausea, vomiting and sweating, can cause damage. Meniere’s can cause hearing loss, Tinnitus (ringing, buzzing and roaring in the ear) and pressure within the ear. Ear damage can make walking or standing difficult. We provide both surgical and non-surgical solutions to help alleviate problems of the ear.

Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy (T&As)
The removal of the tonsils and adenoids, or the collections of lymphoid tissue found in the throat, helps alleviate symptoms of snoring, difficult breathing, sore throat, sinusitis and more. Tonsils (back of the throat) and adenoids (back of the nose) are removed typically for two reasons, infection and obstruction. 90% of all T&As are performed on children over three years and under 15 years of age.

Ear Tube Surgery
To help alleviate hearing loss and chronic ear infections, a tube is placed near the eardrum. The tube allows fluid to drain away from the eardrum, helping regain hearing and release build up in the ear.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Solutions
Snoring is a nuisance and can cause stress among those who are not getting sleep due to the noise. Sleep apnea on the other hand is medically concerning. It occurs when your throat becomes blocked during sleep and you stop breathing for shirt periods of time. Signs may be:
1 Loud snore followed by a gasp of air during sleep
2 Drowsiness during the day
3 Tiredness after a full night’s sleep
4 Crankiness and short temper
5 Concentration or memory problems

Through consultation and possibly sleep lab testing, one of our physicians will be able to pin point the cause of your snoring or sleep apnea. You could have a deviated septum, enlarged turbinates or weight issues. They may provide sleep position recommendations, prescribe medical devices to be used during sleep, offer a dietary and exercise regimen, or decide if surgery will give you the best results.

Allergy Solutions
The only way to know for sure if you have allergies is to be tested. There are a number of allergens such as pollen, mold, dust mites and animals that initiate symptoms of a running nose, itchy, red and watery eyes, congestion, headache, coughing and more. Understanding what allergens affect you will make treatment easier. Most frequently medications are prescribed and are taken orally, injected as a series of shots or inhaled through sprays. However, if these are not helpful, surgery may be necessary.

Sinus Treatments
Your sinuses affect more than your sense of smell, and if you are having sinus problems you may suffer from other symptoms that disrupt your daily activities. Symptoms may include congestion, fullness in ears, colored drainage from the nose, frequent headaches, facial pain and difficulty tasting food. Most often, if you have any of these symptoms regularly your sinuses are blocked. Blockage can occur from colds, infection, allergies, polyps or a deviated septum. To open the sinus passageways endoscopic surgery is performed.

Voice Issues
If you are plagued with chronic coughing, sore throat, hoarse voice and difficult swallowing you may need to see a specialist. We can assess your symptoms and work to diagnose you. Once diagnosed, one of our physicians may suggest lifestyle changes to help alleviate symptoms.

Head/Neck Surgery
If you frequently feel lethargic and cold, and gain weight easily you may suffer from hypothyroidism (overactive thyroid). On the other hand, if you are often jittery, but tired, and lose weight without dieting you may suffer from hyperthyroidism (underactive thyroid). Nodules (lumps and bumps) can also form on the thyroid, but not cause problems or may be a sign of cancer. Depending upon your condition, you may be treated through hormone therapy, surgery or other procedures.
